Street Dancing
Wednesday 2nd May 2012
4.45pm – 6.15pm
5 week course
Right now, break dancing and street dancing have become increasingly popular with young people, more so since the recent exposure from talent shows on reality television. Boys often seem to enjoy the more exuberant break dancing, whereas for girls, street dance seems more to their liking. It’s fun, invigorating and exciting; enjoyed by boys and girls equally. Street dance workshops are great for team building and performances. Those taking part in street dancing may learn aspects of a routine step by step, which may eventually become one performance piece involving everybody. Confidence and self-esteem are enhanced, and this has been noted in our feedback forms on many occasions. Workshops teach Popping, Locking, Breaking, Up Rock, Floor Work and much more.
The next round will cover Music Production beginning on Wednesday 13th June 2012 (4.45pm – 6.15pm). Young people between the ages of 11 and 15 years old can join.
Music Production
Wednesday 13th June 2012
4.45pm – 6.15pm
6 week course
This includes learning how to use music production programs such as Acid, Pro-Tools and Reason to make your own songs. Also, we teach people how to record, arrange and mix instrumental and vocal tracks. This is often incorporated in DJ and Rapping / MC programs to make recordings of the participants work. Music production training has been used in academic institutions to encourage young people, otherwise disengaged, to take an interest in learning, and actually look forward to attending. We can do two hour or full day sessions, but the full course is by far the most engaging, as well as extremely popular programme with young people. Over six two hour sessions they write, recite then record their own songs or raps onto a designed compilation CD that they get to keep. It’s also a useful tool for schools trying to promote music within the curriculum.
Please drop in to the Crownway Community Centre office to collect an application form and more information. Places are limited to approximately 20 children per workshop, and are on a first come first serve basis.

One of our service users at Hope House volunteered to represent St Helens and to speak about his experience of homelessness at the launch of this new intiative which has been rolled out across six councils in the City region of Liverpool.
The aim of this initiative is to prevent anyone who has to sleep rough for one night from sleeping rough a second night. If members of the public see a rough sleeper they are asked to contact the helpline on 0300 123 2041 so that help and support can be provided as quickly as possible.
Our service user was able to speak from experience as he was homeless for five years before we were able to support him into accommodation with the Salvation Army. Through continued support he now has a place of his own and is independent and looking to the future.
